Holy Cow! I did it! I did it! Did I actually do it?! I think I did anyways... I FINALLY "flattened" images!!! Wawhooo.... Okay so I know, I know....everyone already knows how to "flatten" or "lock down" clip art, text, and all their digital files. As a newbie, well a few months old newbie who is SLOW when it comes to tech things I did not know what people were talking about when they said that images had to be flattened. What's sad is that it actually took me 2 days to figure it out and well I haven't exactly gotten it down to perfection. I literally had to take out my pen & notebook to write down everything I did in all my tries because some of the images weren't able to be copied & pasted while for some reason others were. Trial & error. So to try and get this "flattened" thing down I practiced with creating V-Day heart count by 10's number cards and St. Patty's clover count by 10's number cards. Now only if I can keep this figured out.... I used the tutorials from The 3am Teacher and A Turn to Learn to kind of put together and figure it all out. Wish me luck to be able to "flatten" other digital files! Believe me I need it.
WAY TO GO BRITTANY!! I don't have a clue what you mean but I am new at all this so I can SO relate and am excited for you! I think I need to follow the links and see what this is?? I know when I download products I buy, they flatten first. As a seller, am I supposed to be doing something with this?!? Thanks for posting about it!

Yes you do need to check out the links. I think it all depends on how you make your TPT items though. Like I make mine using Powerpoint, which I just started because I found Microsoft not as sufficient. If you read all the terms of use for clipart sellers they say that your TPT items must be "flattened" or "locked down" before you sell them. If you do not flatten or lock down all the pages of your printables than when someone buys your TPT items & opens it in PDF you can select parts of your printable or the whole printable and copy & paste which means that your buyer can use those clipart items without paying the original clip art maker. I just learned about all of this. So I opened a few of my printables in PDF and tried to see if I could copy & paste anything from my file and guess what... I could copy and paste which is not good. I assumed that when I saved a file as PDF that it would save without being copied and pasted. I am still trying to get better at the whole flattening of products which is slowing me down because now I know not to post any products for sale on TPT unless the files are flattened. I hope this helps. If you open your TPT item in PDF on your computer and are not able to select any of your items, nor copy & paste than your files are flattened.

ReplyDeleteMe too Amber... me too! But it does not flatten them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I have been working on doing this now since I read those tutorials. I had my pdf's secured for the most part, but didn't have them "flattened". At least I think....hahaha!

Hey Amanda. Well when flattening my products I learned that her exact tutorial didn't work for me. What does work for me (with using 2007 PowerPoint) is after I am done creating what I need to create on each slide I then go to each individual slide and 1.) I click insert, click the rectangle/square shape & draw a box over the entire slide, then 2.) right click on the box I just drew, 3.) click format background 4.) change the fill color & line color to white., 5) right on the box- click send to back, 6.) highlight the entire slide & right click - click save as picture and you will save each slide as a picture. (I save as pg1, pg2 etc... 7.) After this is done to each slide open up a New PowerPoint... 8.) On the 1st slide which is usually your cover page right click 9.) click format background 10.) under fill- choose picture... Then click Insert--- click File to insert the file of a picture 11.) then find the picture I saved as pg1 or slide 1 that you would like in that 1st slide... It should appear on that slide exactly as I saved it & fill the whole screen (***Note: there have been few times when I open up the picture on the slide & my it's not on the page right, like part of it is cut-off the page. When that happens I open back up the original PowerPoint of that product to edit that particular slide as needed then save picture as & go back to my 2nd PowerPoint & insert picture file...)12.) do the same thing for each slide 13.) after I have done the same thing for each slide I save as PDF.., when it then opens in PDF I'm not able to select, copy nor paste anything! Let me know if this helps...
