Making a Good Impression

Are you big on 1st impressions? I am. I think I always try on a few outfits to figure out what I will wear to meet the teacher night. My school doesn't have meet the teacher night until the end of August since school doesn't start until September but I am already thinking about what I will wear. Below are a few outfits that I plan to wear the 1st few days of school. I am not quiet sure which one I will wear to meet the teacher night yet. Which one do you think?

I love to wear bright colors, especially to meet the teacher night and the 1st day of school.

Each of these outfits were under $50.
I'm a girl on a budget so of course they were on sale.

I must admit that I am leaning towards the white top and bright coral skirt to wear to meet the teacher night. This year there are only two of us teaching kindergarten so I won't have to worry about standing out next to 3 other teachers. I feel like the 1st outfit says fun and a little dressy. :)

Speaking of making a good impression... Are y'all allowed to wear jeans to school? And if so, do you wear them to school?
At my previous school we were not allowed to wear jeans to school and we would complain about it. I mean really... who doesn't love wearing jeans. Maybe it's just me but I like wearing jeans. At the school I teach at now we are allowed to wear jeans on Friday but only if you donate a loonie (equal to $1) towards that year's cause. I really like that teachers give towards a cause to wear jeans for a day.
Why I DON'T wear jeans on jean day...
Since I taught at a new school last year I had to attend a first year employee orientation. On the last day of the orientation a panel of different leaders, teachers, and parents spoke to us giving us some advice. One of the parents straight up said "Please do not wear jeans to school. You are a professional so dress professional." She went into more detail and the more she talked I found myself agreeing with her. She was completely right. Professionals should dress professional.
I also get it. We are in a career wear we are bending down, kneeling, and straight up getting down on the floor with the kiddos. But ya know what... There are pants, maxi dresses, etc. that are comfy and cozy. Just because we may get down and dirty doesn't mean you can't dress more professional.

  1. Hearing you say this has made me think about wearing jeans as well. In the beginning of the year I never do because it is so hot (we don't have a/c) that I would rather wear a dress or skirt with a top. As the year goes on I become more lazy I guess and drift toward the jeans on Fridays. This is especially true in the winter time when I can wear a warm hoodie with my jeans. What are you thoughts on jeans with a dressier top? I know most of us at my school wear a school t-shirt, jeans, and gym shoes on Fridays, but I am wondering if I dress up more with my jeans if that would be better? Hmmmm......I guess just thinking out loud here! :)

    1. I feel you on the no a/c. Unfortunately we don't either so dresses and skirts are my go to choice. I think it also depends on what kind of jeans someone is wearing too. I do have these "jeans" I guess you could maybe call them that I don't mind wearing on a field trip day. I think they are more like navy trousers that looks like jeans but are more of a loose material and look a little bit more dressy. I do love wearing jeans and in the winter that is all I wear on Saturdays and Sundays. I guess since that parent told us that she does not like seeing a teacher wearing jeans at school I just thought- well she can't be the only parent to think that. In all honesty though I am a leggings gal all the way. I live in my leggings in the winter. lol. I pair my leggings with a dress and cardigan. Leggings could be another whole topic as well... Like should leggings be worn as pants?! I have seen this happen in the school and I often do that outside of the school when I am at home. Everyone has their own opinion on jeans and leggings but I love sharing and hearing what others think.P.S. I know you dress super cute. :)

  2. I agree with Amanda. Yes there are outfits to choose that allow you to be on floor and bending down besides jeans, but I always take advantage of jeans on Friday and pair with a professional top. It's more relaxing, and helps to celebrate the upcoming weekend. :)

    1. Yeah wearing jeans on Friday can sometimes be more relaxing. Now that I have a little one this upcoming school year there may be a Friday where I pull out my pair of jeans, especially if it was a long night of my baby waking up. I just prefer my leggings when it is the cooler weather. Plus I am just a lover of dresses. I feel much more comfortable in a dress than I do in jeans. Call me crazy. lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! <3

  4. Coral Skirt and Maxi dress. Either one for Meet the Teacher and then the other for first day of school.
